Inward FDI flows as reported by National Bank of Romania

During the first eleven months of last year, foreign direct investment (FDI) reached EUR 4.436 billion, increasing 105.6% against the same period of 2004 as shows the provisional data reported by the National Bank of Romania (NBR) in the balance of Payments.
Inward FDI during the same period of 2004 amounted EUR 2.158 billion as mentioned in the provisional data presented in the Balance of Payments.
BNR provided also the final revised data as a result of the survey conducted in cooperation with the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) on foreign direct investment (FDI) in Romania according to which the volume of inward FDI during January to November 2004 reached EUR 4.749 billion.
The provisional statistics (EUR 4.436 million) for 2005 as compared to the above mentioned revised data for 2004 clearly indicates a slight decrease of 6.6% during the first 11 months, yet without major impact as comparing provisonal 2005 data to final revised 2004 statistics.
Only when NBR will release the final statistica of the survey conducted in cooperation with NIS on foreign direct investment (FDI), the inward FDI flows for 2005 will reveal the highest volume ever, beyond most optimistic expectations.
The National Trade Register Office (NTRO) provided data, also indicate a 43.6 % increase in the first eleven months for subscribed capital in foreign companies as against the same period of the previous year. (EUR 2.003 billion compared to EUR 1.395 billion).
Romania’s attractiveness as destination for foreign investors can be revealed by the number of foreign companies with subscribed capital registered in the first eleven months of 2005 – 10,748. Compared to the first eleven months of 2004 there has been a 16.3% increase as regards foreign partners interest in setting up new companies in Romania.
Subscribed capital in foreign companies indicating the total value of foreign investors’ contributions from new own resources, in cash and/or assets, while setting-up and registering a company or while increasing the initial capital during the company’s life, indicate a positive trend for the first eleven months of 2005 against the same period of 2004, rising by 43.6%, reaching EUR 2.003 billion.
