The flow of direct investment with significant impact on economy - December 2005

During October 2001 and December 2005, the Regional Development Agencies registered 445 investment projects, exceeding the equivalent of USD 1 millionlion (benefiting of the incentives granted by Law no. 332/2001 regarding the direct investment with significant impact on Romanian economy). The total value assumed for these projects is more than USD 5 billion, the foreign share representing USD 3,618 millionl representing 70.23% of the total.


From these projects, 261 were finalised, with a value of USD 2.4 billion. During 2005, direct investment with significant impact on economy increased at USD 1.8 billion, of wich USD 907.956 millionlion – greenfield and USD 909,584 millionlion– brownfield, compared to only USD1,233 millionl in 2004.


The investments were made in the following main fields:


• Telecommunications: 50 projects with assumed value of USD1,162 million, representing 22.56% from the total
• Wood processing: 20 projects with assumed value of USD 652 million, representing 12.67% from the total
• Services, 57 projects with assumed value of USD 613 million, representing 11.90% from the total
• Trade: 76 projects with assumed value of USD 476 million, representing 9.24% from the total
• Energy sector: 21 projects with assumed value of USD 431 million, representing 8.37% from the total
• Machine building,: 35 projects with assumed value of USD 401 million, representing 7.80% from the total
• Constructions and constructions materials: 35 projects with assumed value of USD 265 million, representing 5.15% from the total
• Metalurgy: 16 projects with assumed value of USD 209 million, representing 4.06% from the total
• Electronics and electrotehnics: 14 projects with assumed value of USD 207 million, representing 4.03 % from the total.


A clasification by value, indicates that were registered 6 projects over USD 100 million, 15 projects with value between USD50 and 100 million, 101 projects with value between USD 10 and 50 million, the rest until 445 being projects with value between USD 1 and 10 million.


As concerns the regional spreading, most projects were registered in:


1. Bucuresti-Ilfov Development Region - 246 projects, with assumed value of USD 3,141 million, representing 60,98% from the total, of which foreign investment 2,275 million USD, representing 44.18%
2. Centru Development Region (counties Alba, Brasov, Covasna, Harghita, Mures, Sibiu) – 75 investment projects, with assumed value of USD 749 million, representing 14.54%, of which foreign investment USD 452 millionioane, representing 8.78% from general total
3. Sud-Muntenia Development Region (counties Arges, Calarasi, Dambovita, Giurgiu, Ialomita, Prahova, Teleorman) - 34 projects, with assumed value of USD 488 million, representing 9.48% from the total, of which foreign investment USD 368 million, representing 7.15%.


As concerns the country of origin, foreign investors that registred investment projects in value exceeding USD 1 million, are coming from the Netherlands, with USD 1,148 million, representing 22.29% of total investment, followed by Austria with USD 668 million, representing 12.97% and from France, with USD 404 million, representing 7.84% from the total investment.
