During january - may 2005 direct investments with significant impact on the economy rose

During January – May 2005, according to the Law no. 332/2001 regarding direct investment with significant impact on the economy reached a volume of USD 445 million and a total number of 39 projects against 31 projects during the same period of the previous year, when the engaged value of the investments amounted USD 419 million.
Most investments were engaged in (starting the law entering into force): telecommunications - representing 21.62% out of total investment value, services representing 14.08% out of total investment value, trade holding 11.58% from the total amount, energy sector with 11.55%, machinery building industry representing 8.69% out of the total investment volume, metallurgy with 5.80% and wood processing industry, representing 5.7% of the total investment volume.
By May 2005, five of the investment projects exceeded USD 100 million, while other 10 ranged from USD 50 to 100 million, 79 investment projects had values within the range USD 10 – 50 million, the rest up to 284 projects reaching values between USD 1 –10 million.
The companies that registered the highest amount in investment projects, according to the Law no. 332/2001, during Janurary – May 2005, are the following:
* HIPROMA SA project consisting in building two hypermarket stores, located one in Bucharest and one in Constanta. The total value of the two projects reached USD 83.5 million due in the second semester of 2006;
* PETROTEL LUKOIL SA project located in Ploiesti - Prahova country, amounting USD 54 million, based on crude oil processing, having to be implemented by August 2007;
* MOBIFON SA invested in telecommunication projects, in Bucharest and are to be finalized in December 2006; the total value of the engaged investment is USD 40 million.
The direct investment with significant impact in the economy are defined by Law. No. 332/2001 as those investments with a value which exceed USD 1 million, made in the forms and ways provided by this law and which contribute to the development and modernization of the Romanian economic infrastructure, determine a positive spin-off effect in economy and create new jobs. Direct investment with significant impact on economy are allowed in all economic sectors with the exception of financial, banking, insurance and re-insurance, as well as the sectors regulated by special laws.
