Records on Warsaw Stock Exchange

( 17 / February / 2005 )

On 16 February foreign investors purchased shares worth half a billion PLN. As a result, index of Warsaw Stock Exchange reached the highest level in 15 years of its existence. The bourse witnesses large inflow of capital, which is attracted by remarkable results of Polish companies as well as promising macroeconomic indicators.

The index of Polish largest companies WIG20 increased by 2.5% and reached the turnover of over PLN 1 billion.

The demand concentrates on the largest Polish companies, which is a sign that their stock is mainly acquired by foreign investors.

Foreign investors are attracted by significant results of Polish largest companies. Recently TP SA, KGHM, PKO BP informed about their profits, which are the highest in their history. In addition, latest macroeconomic data showed inflation in January to be at the level lower than anticipated by analysts. This should allow the Monetary Policy Council to cut interest rates, which should translate into growth of investments.
