Polish subsuppliers at Skoda Auto
( 07 / December / 2005 )
On November 22-23, 2005 Polish subsuppliers traveled to the Czech Republic within an economic mission organized by Polish Chamber of Automotive Industry (PIM). It was a second foreign mission conducted by PIM this year.
PIM organized the first mission in July 2005. The goal of the summer mission was the buying headquarters of the PSA Peugeot Citroen in Poissy by Paris. Almost 40 component producers traveled to France.
Second, November mission was a result of negotiations conducted since August by PIM and the Local Purchasing Team at Skoda Auto. Skoda exports 86% of production to 85 countries. The company is the largest car producer in new EU Member Countries (in 2004 over 444,000 of Fabiia, Octavia and Superb models were produced).
The trip to Mlada Boleslav was divided into two parts. First, there was a conference organized at the Skoda Museum, where participants could receive information about company's plans and strategy towards its subsuppliers. Skoda representatives presented interesting data about Skoda's subsuppliers in the last 12 years. In 1993 Skoda had about 140 subsuppliers, out of which only 1% fulfilled the highest standards and was classified in an A category. As a result of VW high demands, this structure changed over the following years. At the end of 2004 Skoda had 1,060 subsuppliers including:
*
63% in A category
*
34% in B category
*
3% in C category
Skoda Auto also presented the Local Purchasing Teams' structure and expectations, logistics and internet platform for subsuppliers. Some companies met individually with representatives of Skoda Auto purchasing department. Chosen subsuppliers had the chance to present their offer and answer to questions.
The meetings for Polish subsuppliers with world leaders of car production are very popular. Twenty five companies took part in the second mission among others: ZM Postęp, Malbox, Zetguma, Graform, Śrubena - Produkcja, Wezi - tec, Marbo, Galwano - Technika, Tres. Participants positively evaluated the mission. They said that Polish components are still a small part in Skoda Auto production. However, there is a chance, that a new "Patron" programme (organized by VW - Poznań i VW Motor Polska) and November mission will allow introduction of new subsuppliers from Poland to the Mlada Boleslav factory.
