Hungary's GDP grows 4.1% in 2005, 4.3% in Q4, slightly above expectations

Hungary's GDP rose 4.3% year on year (y/y) in the fourth quarter of 2005, bringing GDP growth for the entire year 2005 to 4.1%, according to preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) Tuesday.


The Q4 figure is marginally above market expectations, and compares to the 4.1% y/y flash GDP estimate released recently by Ecostat, the KSH's research arm. According to seasonally adjusted figures, GDP grew 1.0% in Q4 compared to the previous quarter. Adjusted for the leap day in the base period, GDP growth in 2005 was 4.3% y/y, down from the 2004 growth rate of 4.5%, the KSH said. Value added in the production sectors was up 4.9% on the year, while services showed 4.0% y/y growth in Q4 2005. Detailed, final information on Q4 GDP, including the consumption side, will be published on March 10.
