Hungarian unemployment up to 7.5% in Nov-Jan from 7.3% in previous three month period

Hungarian unemployment rose to 7.5% in November–January compared to 7.3% in the previous three-month period as the number of people looking for work rose by around 42,000 to 317,600, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) Friday.


The number of people in work during the period was around 4 million, which corresponds to an employment rate in Hungary of 54.6%. The relatively small 15-24 age group accounted for 19.8% of total unemployed with unemployment in the age group exceptionally high at 18.8%. During the period 45.9% of unemployed had been out of work for a year or longer, 0.8% more than last year. The average period of unemployment was 16.2 months. Figures released by the EU's statistical office Eurostat for the middle of the period show that unemployment in the EU 15 in December was 7.5%, 8.4% in the EU 25, and 7.2% in Hungary.
