Tyco International expands its R&D activities in the Czech Republic

Tyco Fire and Security, a division of Tyco International [NYSE: TYC], have unveiled their plan to expand their Research and Product Development organization by setting up a new design centre in Brno, Czech Republic, that will be engaged in product design for the fire detection and care communications product families of the group.
“Well educated and cost-effective engineers, together with the proximity to our existing R&D centres in Munich and London were key to our decision. Finally, it was also the state support offered by the Czech Government that made the difference,” Larry Zimmermann, Vice President R&D Tyco Fire & Security, justified Tyco’s decision.
The design centre will initially consist of 70 employees and if successful may be expanded over the next five years. The engineers in Brno will act as an extension of Tyco’s R&D teams in the US, the UK and Germany.
After Honeywell and Tescan, Tyco is the third company to announce an innovation-oriented, high-value-added project in Brno. “It is more than evident that Brno offers an ideal mix of conditions to investors into innovations and R&D activities. Brno universities and particularly Brno University of Technology, are the main magnet that attracts such kinds of projects to the area,” added Tomáš Hruda, Director of the Investment Project Department at CzechInvest.
Brno technology centre will focus on the actual design to achieve a completely manufacturable product. These processes will include detailed development, testing and product introduction into factories mainly in Europe, but also in other parts of the world. Products designed in Brno will include fire sensors and detectors, head end PC applications, bed and room electronics, care communication networks, etc.
