Four years of job creation grants

( 24 / January / 2008 )

Four years of job creation grants: 10,409 jobs and investment of CZK 4.7 billion (EUR 184 million, GBP 137 million).

More than ten thousand new jobs and almost a hundred investment projects worth CZK 4.7 billion - that is the final score of the now completed Job Creation Support Programme for regions worst affected by unemployment.

The scheme was designed not only to bring new investors, but also to help existing ones to expand in regions of high unemployment, thus encouraging the creation of new jobs. Businesses received up to CZK 200,000 for each job created (about EUR 8,000 per head). Training-related costs could be also co-financed from this programme.

Mechanical engineering, plastics and automotive industries accounted for the majority of the investment. Geographically, Hodonin turned out the most successful region by attracting 25 projects under this programme. The Chomutov region came second with 10 projects, half of which were managed by Alpha Management Consultants, who also brought the third largest investment – Jeyes, manufacturer of household cleaning and hygiene products - to this area (Kadan).

Nowadays, there is an increasing need for the Czech Republic to allocate the available workforce into businesses that operate modern technologies, conduct R&D or provide sophisticated services. Translating such needs into the new grants programmes, they now target mainly higher value added investment. However, manufacturers wanting to expand, invest into new machinery or set up R&D centre certainly do not come short. Opportunities under the new 2007-2013 schemes are substantial.
